Evil Devil Performing @ Black Cat's 10th Anniversary Show

EDITORS UPDATE:

WE REGRET TO REPORT THAT BLACK CAT ENTERTAINMENT / PROMOTER RICH VREEDE REGULARLY STIFFS BANDS AND INVESTORS. WE DID NOT REALIZE THIS AT THE TIME WE COVERED THIS EVENT.

AFTER THIS EVENT IN 2010, SEVERAL BANDS REPORTEDLY DID NOT GET PAID. SOME REPORTED THAT THEY EVENTUALLY GOT PAID ONLY AFTER DRIVING TO VREEDE”S PARENT’S HOUSE (HE LIVES WITH THEM STILL) AND THREATENING ACTION. WE APOLOGIZE TO ANYONE THAT MAY HAVE GOTTEN INVOLVED WITH VREEDE OR BLACK CAT THINKING HE WAS A LEGITIMATE PROMOTER DUE TO THE COVERAGE THAT WE PROVIDED. ONCE AGAIN WE WERE NOT AWARE OF HIS PAST OR HIS DISHONEST DEALINGS AT THE TIME OF THIS COVERAGE. FOR MORE INFORMATION ON VREEDE AND BLACK CAT YOU CAN GO HERE AND HERE

Over the Memorial Day Weekend I got a chance to interview one of the headliners from the Black Cat 10th Anniversary Psychobilly show, Italy’s Evil Devil.

I met Rich from Black Cat, David from David Falcon Graphics and the entire gang from Evil Devil at Venice Beach on Sunday, a beautiful day for the beach. Venice Beach was incredibly crowded with it’s normal cast of characters and is probably one of the few beaches in LA where a band like Evil Devil looked almost at home.

Me with Italy's Evil Devil @ Venice Beach

I hope the guys wore some sunscreen because one or two of them was actually more pale than me. Maybe that is why I like Psychobilly, the artists and fans make me feel so healthy and tan in comparison!

We talked a  bit about the history of the band as well as the psychobilly scene in Italy, Spain and the rest of Europe as compared to the U.S. and Los Angeles in particular. And we discussed the enthusiastic crowd at the Black Cat show last Friday night.

Turns out this was not Evil Devil’s first forray into the U.S. psychobilly scene, not by a long shot. They’ve been to NYC and performed at the legendary CBGB’s as well as more recently in Los Angeles where they played the Key Club. This is where many fans from Friday night first discovered them and where Rich from Black Cat initially thought they’d make a good addition to his line up.

We’ll hopefully have a segment from the interview with Evil Devil up soon, in the meantime, you can check a nice little clip of them performing Friday night below and if your ever in Northern Italy, look them up, they are not only some talented dudes, they are some extremely cool cats.

Enjoy!
